Unite to End: Hotels Against Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is a grave issue that affects countless lives around the world, and the hospitality industry is uniquely positioned to help combat it. In a recent ChoiceU TALKS interview, Lori Cohen, CEO of Protect All Children from Trafficking (PACT), Amy Howland, Sr. VP of Operations from Sandpiper Hospitality, and Nicolas Tiziou, Director of Sustainability at Choice Hotels, each shared the critical role that hotel staff can play in identifying and preventing human trafficking. By being vigilant and aware of the signs, hotel employees can make a significant impact in this fight.
There are several key indicators hotel staff should be on the lookout for. These include guests who appear fearful or controlled by someone else, avoid eye contact, or pay in cash for long stays. Other red flags include guests with little luggage or those who frequently request new linens. Training also plays an important role in helping your staff to recognize the signs and how to act.
